Migraine Headache Causes

There are many things that can trigger a migraine headache. Stress, exercise, smoking, and certain types of food can cause a migraine headache. Even some people who are sick with a certain problem may find that they are struck by an unusual amount of migraine attacks.

When a person is sick the most common type of migraine headache they experience are migraine sinus headaches. These different triggers are vast and will not always cause a migraine in certain people. It all depends on how their body reacts.

Migraine headaches are a type of vascular headache that is caused when the blood vessels are enlarged and when certain chemicals are released from the nerve fibers that wrap themselves around the blood vessels. When a person is suffering from a migraine attack it is because the temporal artery is enlarged. The temporal artery is situated just outside of the skull and underneath the skin of the temple.

When this artery is enlarged the nerves that are wrapped around it will cause the nerves to release the chemicals. These chemicals will cause migraine symptoms of pain, inflammation, and will cause the artery to expand even more. The larger the artery expands the more pain the person will feel.

When a migraine attack occurs the sympathetic nervous system contained within the body will become active. This part of the nervous system is believed to control a person’s response to pain and stress. When the sympathetic nervous system is working hard it can create symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It will also prevent the contents in the stomach to travel to the small intestine. This prevents any oral medication from being absorbed.

This is the main reason why many people who take migraine headache medications will not have any relief. Other symptoms that the sympathetic nervous system can create is the decrease of blood circulation. This will cause the person’s skin to look white and cause their hands and feet to become cold. It will also cause them to become sensitive to light, sound, and can create blurred vision.
